About Samantha Jane
Samantha Jane’s career in photography spans over twenty years working and collaborating with the utmost talented artists and photographers. Her need for artistic expression started at a very young age while training at the Manhattan Ballet School on the Upper East side. During high school she attended figure drawing classes at the Art Students League on West 57th street. Nude figure drawing amongst adults would prepare her for the Hartford Art School where she studied art and photography under Ellen Carey, Fred Wessel and Mary Frey. After graduating in 1991 with a BFA, Samantha Jane moved back home to work with master black & white printer, Chuck Kelton, at his New York City lab. Chuck Kelton printed for the best photographers in the industry, both fine art and commercial. Clients included, Annie Leibovitz, Ruven Afanador, Zeke Berman, Bruce Davidson, Helen Levitt, Sally Gall and Steven Meisel. Samantha Jane worked as a project manager and handled the finishing of all prints and film.
In 1996 Samantha Jane worked along side renowned celebrity portrait photographer Mark Seliger, as his studio manager, producing large complicated photo shoots, overseeing special exhibitions, working on book projects and managing the archive, all while supervising a staff of twelve in Seliger’s four story building in the west village.
After 10 years at Seliger’s studio Samantha Jane took a leap to work as a photo editor, director and visual curator for magazines from 2006 until present, collaborating with such titles as Town & Country, Parents, Real Simple, Entrepreneur, Architectural Digest, Country Living and HGTV magazines. While photo director at Town & Country magazine she produced all covers and feature fashion, still life and lifestyle stories, from beginning to end, while editing and handling the magazines entire photo budget. Most recently Samantha has edited and researched for Centennial Media, Frommer’s Travel Guide and Hearst’s bookazine department.
Samantha continues to work with Thomas | Treuhaft, promoting and marketing a roster of seven photographers, maintaining the company’s website and managing the website re-design. Samantha is involved with artists relations as well as seeking out new talent to represent while bidding and producing advertising jobs.
Samantha is committed and passionate in driving great photography and visual curation in all arenas. She has spent her career helping people make outstanding and unforgettable pictures.
Samantha was born and raised in NYC. She loves to draw and paint, practice Ashtanga yoga and run. She spends time in Madrid while her son pursues a career in soccer there.
